Schoolbeat Selected to Participate in 5-week SEL Pilot with Mt. Diablo Unified School District
Schoolbeat is honored to share that it has been selected among four social-emotional learning (SEL) programs to participate in a five-week pilot with Mt. Diablo Unified School District.
Mt. Diablo USD has designed an exceptionally thoughtful and rigorous SEL selection process that stands out as a model for districts nationwide. The district convened a diverse and committed committee of 45 teachers, counselors, and administrators who collaboratively defined clear criteria for what an effective SEL program must deliver for their students and staff.
The committee dedicated a full day to listening to SEL program pitches, followed by in-depth deliberation and participation in pre-pilot training sessions. From this process, two of the four programs were invited to move forward into the pilot phase.
What makes this process especially powerful is that committee members are piloting the programs directly with their own students. This hands-on approach ensures that decisions are grounded in real classroom experience rather than theory alone. This spring, the committee will reconvene to reflect on their pilot experience and determine which SEL program they believe best serves Mt. Diablo’s schools for a broader rollout.
Regardless of the final selection, we want to celebrate the leadership, intentionality, and educator-centered approach demonstrated by Mt. Diablo Unified School District. Their commitment to doing SEL right, by listening to educators, prioritizing student needs, and investing the time to make an informed decision, is truly impressive.
